Hey D2000!!! How much did the seats cost you? Somehow I dont like them. There is something wrong. I dont know what? Maybe the fitting. enjoy your ride

Think there is something wrong with fit & finish. Did they remove the existing seat cover and installed? if not, that's how you get the exact fit and should be done by a good professional. Anyways, how much did you shell out?

How is the clarity of the music system?

Hey D2K , Even I feel the same thing as Pancham said . There could have been an improvement in the fitting .

But I really liked the buy 7 get 1 free concept

Thanks folks - I think they didnt quite get the sizes right while stitching the covers. Unfortunately, they will never say 'no' to a job - so there is a bit of experimental setup that I am having to pay. Lets see what we can do from here on. So all other Polo owners - insist on seeing the 'template' before you get the seats fitted at an accessory shop.

It didnt cost be a bomb (under 5K), so there should be possibilities of playing around still.

I find the music system quite clear and well balanced. Of course, it is a basic one with mp3 and radio only - no usb/aux etc; but it does do a capable job of what it can play. The good part about taking it factory fitted is that it is very well integrated in the dashboard. And incidentally, I just noticed this - the music system area, is actually just a little tilted towards the driver - to allow for slightly better visibility and access to the driver.

I believe this is very unique to the Polo - another great point in its favour.

Driver, Exactly my thoughts. Though the livon upholstery get soiled easily, it is equally easy to clean it as well. My strategy is to retain the upholstery to the point of non salvage and then go for a seat cover from a reputed brand. This way
1)You can skew the expenses.
2)Make maximum use of the original upholstery.
3)Due to 2 no remorse in removing the upholstery fully which is essential for a perfect fit.
A seat cover with bad fitting looks more odd than a little soiled upholstery to me. Good upholstery cleaners can lift even hardcore stains.

+1 on this - Poloman, I am very much convinced on 2 things. Seat cover & Sun films - Waste of money, atleast for Polo. Together will save almost 10 grands!!!

Congrats D2K! Your baby really looks lovely. There is something about the Polo that makes it an eye catcher despite not having the flourishes that some of its competitors possess.
If you don't mind me saying, the original upholstery looked better than the shiny stuf you've put on top of it. Of course that's only my opinion!

noopster: +1 to that.

But I can also put myself in Driver2000's situation. Rather than having my BP up and admonishing the child now and then, I too may have made a run to the neighborhood upholsterer and got any seat cover just to "save" the seats.

The things we do for our children...

Thanks Noopster. By any chance, have you been in Bangalore with either Infosys or Wipro before? Your id looks very familiar.. so if you have any Bangalore connections, please pm me - maybe we can connect all over again!

Indeed - not worth shouting on kids who will be kids. The finish hasn't been the best no doubt, but in person - people have liked the colour scheme so far (some saving grace!). The guy has promised to do a better job soon - lets see how that happens.

When is your coming, nowwhat? Will be a sure rocket with the 1.6 engine - waiting eagerly for your ownership reports and pics. All the best!

Thanks for the best wishes, Driver2000!

I should be getting mine (or rather my wife's) 1.6 this week, latest by Saturday. VW Downtown says that the car has been shipped from the Chakan plant but it may have been delayed due to the rains.

Another problem is that since the car is similar to the 1.2 and there are very few 1.6s arriving, they have to physically go and check to see if my car has arrived at the Hosur Road stockyard. Yesterday the sales executive did just that and he told me that the car definitely hasn't reached Bangalore.

Don't plan to make a report like you did since it actually isn't my car and the chances of me actually driving it are next to nil. But I will definitely post some pictures in one of the existing Polo threads (maybe yours or Chethan's if either one of you permit me) and answer any questions.

A lot of things with the Polo are unexplored territory - including the physical inspection required, and no manual for the 1.6! Kind of adds to the fun. Have you got your VIN no;, and if so, use the 'Finding the VIN' thread and get an exhaustive report from Wildon - really very cool, highly recommended if you havent done it already.

Please go right ahead and post the pics on this thread if you feel like. And I fervently hope you get to drive the car at least half the time . I can completely identify with what you are saying - I picked up a Scorpio few years ago, rubbing my hands in glee - and my wifey happily impounded it for her royal majesty's serive and handed me the Zen .

Things we do for our kids and wife... like one gentleman once famously said (Chethan, you might like this quote too): 'Beewi aayi to doston se gaye, bacche aaye to apne aap se gaye!'

Thats disappointing. I was hoping that you would start the 2nd 1.6 ownership thread and was so looking forward to it.

You are free to post. No formalities please. But, you should drive the car atleast on the weekends and give us your feedback. For that matter, you can pass on the information from your wife also. But we need info at any cost!!

2nd 1.6 ownership thread? Is there already a 1.6 ownership thread on this forum? Sorry, I am ignorant.

Oops.

Let me see... Its just that I am not sure I can do justice after starting a new thread.

No VIN yet. But I have seen Wildon's work. Its cool!

Will definitely get it decoded once I get it. But I don't think there is much to worry about since at the moment there are more bookings (of all Polo variants) than cars. In fact VW Downtown looks like a giant Polo parking lot.

In the last 6 years, I must have driven my wife's Esteem 5 times and too only recently.

Chethan & Driver2000: Thanks for officially letting me "hijack" your thread. Will keep you all posted.

re

Mr. Chethan:
I have a question for you. Give that you took your car in a road trip sometime back, how did you feel about the suspension ? For instance, there are numerous reports on Tata Manza that its suspension is supersoft. With just 4 people and some luggage on the boot, its suspension starts kissing each and every speed-breaker. Is this also the case for Polo?
