Thanks kpbhatt for the clarification,I do hope they give it discs at the front. Having tried to make a car out of a mini truck and giving it 70 horses, they better make it appealing to the private drivers, may be even as a variant is sufficient.

Comfort and convenience of both driver and passengers have been adequately addressed with power steering, power windows, reverse parking aid, keyless entry with engine immobiliser and rear wipers.

Looks like Tata priced it right this time, Why Rajasthan? I believe even Iris was launched first in Rajasthan.

Re: Tata Venture - Test Drive

This is the full venture brochure. Base CX model is powered by the naturally aspirated version of the 475 DL IDI motor whereas the top two models get a turbo.

Re: Tata Venture - Test Drive

Can we not have an official First Impression of the Venture? GTO? Mahesh? It would be nice to see some high quality pictures of the vehicle. It looks promising.

EDIT: First impressions elsewhere:

Yes it would be nice to get a detailed Report from the Experts, I hope GTO is reading this.

Wow this VAN weighs almost 2tonns. 1990KGs, and just 71PS...Well does it actually move, or if it moves can the Vacuum assisted Brakes Stop it in time...

TATA could have done a lot better..

@Rajchetan,
It moves. 1990kg is the GROSS vehicle weight. An AQUA trim TDi Vista, which is powered by the same 475 IDI Turbo 71ps, has a kerb weight of about 1250kg odd. I think the gross would be comparable. She still has plenty power at hand when needed. The 475 NA is where the doubt is. 50 PS and some 85odd Nm of torque is a bit under par it seems.

I've seen this thing on the Mumbai Pune Bypass and they literally zoom past you easily cruising above 120kmph.

What surprises is the 1990kg weight common to all variants as Gross. So the bells and whistles added in 2 higher variants are 0 weight? Or they have added lead blocks in the base variant to make up the weight?

Re: Tata Venture - Test Drive

Venture is a good move by TML to address the compact MUV segment. This reminds me of the INDIVA concept. IMO Venture is not a direct competitor to Eeco but to all the other cars in the taxi segment. With the seating and cargo capacity of a venture, it would be tough for other vehicles to compete in this segment provided the ergonomics and comfort levels are good for the passengers. This is not to say that Venture could not be used for domestic transportation but it seems to me that the natural positioning is towards the people mover segment. Venture is a very good improvement over Winger but I am not sure what happens to Winger now.

TML has the ingenuity of competing in different segments by introducing diesel engine. However, almost all the models suffer when the competition catches up. Though the signature feature of TML in almost all cars has been the interior space and ride quality, I hope they move to the next level of getting the gearbox and steering right in all vehicles.

Re: Tata Venture - Test Drive

Why is Tata not launching this vehicle pan India? Tata Venture seems to be a very good VFM people mover. A 8 seater at less than 6 lakhs onroad is a great buy I guess.

Tata Motors - Media Centre

Tata Motors has updated their Media Centre about the launch in Rajasthan officially, and it appears that this is the first vehicle to be sold at both passenger car and commercial vehicle dealers. (Correct me if I am wrong).

Tatas plan to merge CV & passenger car dealership - The Economic Times
Quote:
Tata Motors plans to combine distribution platforms for passenger cars and light trucks capable of carrying passengers , as it seeks to boost margins for dealers and bring retailing for products such as the Winger Platinum, Venture and the Xenon under one umbrella......
We have started selling Platinum in passenger vehicle dealerships......
In the early 90s, passenger cars Estate and Sierra did not bring much volume and were retailed as part of the truck division. With the launch of Indica in 1998, the company moved the Sumo, Safari, Estate and Sierra to the passenger car division.

The Venture will be available in 5, 7 and 8-seater options in 3-row front facing configuration and in a range of 5 colours and 3 trim levels. It is powered by a 1.4-litre turbo diesel engine.

Re: Tata Venture - Test Drive

Any idea when it will be launched in Tamil Nadu? We need to finalize between Tata Venture or Ford Figo (!) in February itself. As we can't keep waiting.

It will be better to call your local Tata Motors dealer. He might even be able to arrange the vehicle. However please check up whether BS III vehicle can be registered in your city as Venture (as I understand) comes with BS III engine.

Re: Tata Venture - Test Drive

It seems this is precisely the reason why the Venture is not launched PAN India? Ideally speaking, Tata should have sorted this out before the Vehicle was launched?
