Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

just read the specs...ecclipse78....thank you soooo much for sharing!...may very well be my next car!!!

im most excited to see that the NON-exclusive version retains USB connectivity. That was the major sore point i had with the 320d CE. Can anyone confirm if the x1 non-exclusive will maintain the corona rings upfront?
could be a deal breaker for me

Based on the sheet, the difference between the exclusive and non-exclusive is:
* no panoramic sunroof
* no headlight washer system
* no idrive
* no wood trim...replaced by high gloss interior
* only black and beige color seats
* less fancy allow design

Ex-showroom prices[from the pdf]:

X1 sDrive18i - 22,00,000
X1 sDrive20d - 23,90,000
X1 sDrive20d Exclusive - 29,90,000

What onroad prices are we looking at in Pune?

Sure, the corona rings are BMW trademarks. It will be standard across any model; for sure all variants of the X1 will have them.

Thanks for sharing the spec. sheet.
The sDrive 18i looks quite anemic for a BMW. The volume seller in this group should be the regular 20d. From the featurelist, its quite a good deal (in comparison with the exclusive version).

From the nomenclature, it looks like the AWD versions are not getting into India.

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

Yes, it's a bit disappointing to note that for the price they are offering the sDrive ( 2WD) and not the xDrive variant.

Another thing, the engine spec of the diesel says 177 bhp and 350 Nm.
This same engine powers the 320d and 520d and churns out 184 bhp and 380 Nm.

I have asked the BMW guys to clarify if this is a printing error; or whether the X1 is coming in a lower state of tune.

Wow, just Wow. Killer pricing of 22L ex Showroom is going to dig into the pockets of Skoda (Superb), Honda (CRV), Toyota (Fortuner), Benz (C Class exec), VW (Passat) and self 3 series too.

Excellent strategy BMW!

I doubt if the Fortuner's market will be hit...the X1 is a much smaller car,not 4x4 either...cant say the same about the others though!

Glad to hear that the corona rings will remain, bang for buck the X20d [standard] wins hands down, punch for punch its a better package than the 3series 320d CE as well.

I wish the exclusive came with xDrive, for bmw's xdrive + extra features the additional 7lcs would have been worth it.

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

Wow! 22 lac ex-showroom for a BMW. This is seriously tempting stuff!

Properly positioned, the 1 series in India can give Skoda a run for their money. And this is a great start!

Absolutely brilliant pricing for the baby SUV - Actually this is pretty close to Santa Fe. X20d is going to sell in good numbers.

True. I miss the USB in the CE, it can get annoying at times, till one floors it And yes, any BMW retains the Corona Rings upfront, you can be sure of that.

Almost exactly what they did to the CE. Good move at launch, because the 3 has proved that even with the existence of a CE, there are plenty of takers for the kitted-out Highline.

Quote:
X1 sDrive18i - 22,00,000
X1 sDrive20d - 23,90,000
X1 sDrive20d Exclusive - 29,90,000
As I remember posting long back, almost exactly on par with the CE (23.95). That usually works out to 28L OTR Mumbai (28.7 AFAIK). The Exclusive will be about 35-37L OTR (on par with the 320d Highline).

Back in March when I'd checked one out, both the cars with the 2.0d were rated @ 177 bhp / 350 nm. Since then, I believe the 2.0d has been slightly tweaked and uprated to produce 184 bhp / 380 nm in the 320d and the 520d. I wouldn't be surprised if the X1 still maintains the old state of tune. Hardly makes a difference, I'd say. My car runs the old state of tune and I haven't found much to complain about. I suppose the additional torque would help move the X1 better.

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

Well the petrol was "not fully loaded" and the diesel " fully loaded" as per the sales rep at Chennai.
pondycherry yes quite a difference in tax structure. how ever it's common in chennai for people to get cars registered there.Was a peak in pondy registered cars at madras during the 1990-95 period after which there was a crack down and it waned off.how ever looks like a good proposition now.

Congrats on the 320d ce btw! totally awesome machine, love the car and may have very well selected it but im 6,3 and dont fit in the back seat. I can imagine that [leg] space would be about the same in the x1 other than the headroom[major requirement for me] because of the sav format.

@FlyingSpur are the non-xenon beams good enough? have you had to change them on your ce? Correct me if I am wrong but i think standard halogens are provided correct? Your inputs would be much appreciated!

I don't sit in the back seat, so it doesn't bother me. Previous vehicle was a Corolla so the leg room is the same, doesn't feel cramped. The X1 is quite alright at the back, a little more legroom than the 3 AFAIK. Don't remember too well, it was in the showroom when I took delivery in March.

I haven't changed them. You are correct, they're standard halogens. I can't say I'm entirely happy with them, though. Might consider more powerful stuff shortly.

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

There is also a "Cool Elegance" version which includes the following above the highline variant,

Nevada Leather Upholstery Black / Oyster and yellow piping.
Sports Seats (481)
Front Armrest Sliding (4AE)
Fineline Wave Wood trim (4CH)
BMW Individual headliner anthracite (775)
Floor mats in leather piping 'Oyster'
Bottom part of instrument panel and centre console 'Oyster'

The car is about 3 Lac more than the highline variant.

Regards,

P.S Does anyone notice BMW has more colour choices on the X1 than most mass market car makers offer in India.
