Yes very much, Looking at either this or the Foruner. one of the two for sure.rather two very vastly different cars,in every way.so will actively take a look at the X1 before making the decision.

my only fear is that the x1 will go into a ridiculously long 6 month waiting period and then you pay 25lcs for a car that you dont get to drive for half a year [the plight of the current fortuner lot]!

Apparently....both bmw dealers in Mumbai have already sold out their shipment of 100 odd cars and the next round of booking will only commence in April 2011

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

you know what i like about the corporate editions from BMW. look very carefully.they don't skip the safety features and the basically the heart of the car i.e the engine remains the same. also they never skip on efficent dynamic stuff too. for that i think its excellent value for money. and dunno for whatever reasons the 3 series or the X1 will always be more efficent than its counterpart. brilliant design by bmw. also the bmw hi-fi sound system, and things like bmw radio proffesional has not been skipped. thank u BMW.

Man those alloys are sweet! Remind me of the ones on the X6.

Great looking car, love the side profile!

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

Guys, just got these updates now from ODMAG twitter.

Not sure whether these are already shared - pasting it anyway.

Quote:

BMW X1 launched in India. sDrive18i : Rs. 2200000, sDrive20d: Rs.2390000, sDrive20d Exclusive: Rs.2990000

Over 1000 bookings already received for the BMW X1.

The X1 will be a CKD and deliveries will begin in Q1 of 2011.

The BMW X1 will be available in range of 10 colours. Two upholstery options (black and beige) for the sDrive18i and the sDrive20d. Leather u

BMW expects the X1 to be their highest selling car in India.
Does this mean R.I.P Toyota Fortuner? For me it makes much more sense to own the "snob" value by paying a couple of extra lakhs !

^^ The Fortuner and X1 are entirely different vehicles focussed on different market segments. Unless obviously the buyer is royally confused.

For me, there is nothing called as market segment.

When I was buying my Laura, I asked the guy at Europa to explain the excessive processing charges they wanted to push for my loan - he started the B.S - "sir, it depends on the segment - for a D segment car like Laura...". I asked him to shut up and give me his manager's number. Suddenly everyone started making sence and I got the table of processing charges versus the loan amount slabs.

Fortuner has a low range, etc that X1 may not have, but then Safari also has low range. So for me, there are various products from various brands and everyone buys what he/she likes. That's it. Where is the confussion?

A potential Fortuner customer is definitely going to consider the X1

Honda has serious guts to still sell the CBU CR-V.

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

i have not seen the CRVs they are missing or what in ahmedabad roads. all i see today are fortuners, and endeavours, lots of captivas and some x trails here and there. in this segment. don't even wanna mention the X5's and Q7s and Q5s but i rarely see any CRVs. i think its gone extinct or what!

anyways my point is people who are looking for snob value will jump on the bmw X1. you are getting a BMW(CE) SUV at the price of honda CRV. what will you buy??? no points for guessing!

Depends....there are enough people who would happily "stretch" to the Bimmer if you ask me.

After all, how many people are buying the Fortuner to do serious off-roading in?

Re: First Drive: BMW X1 xDrive 20D (PPP)

IMHO, there are clearly buyers for and shifters from Fortuner.
- A person who's stretching his 18L-odd budget to 22L will still buy the Fortuner as the X1 is quite a distance away.
- To someone who's got the moolah, but was buying the Fortuner for road presence or a statement, the X1 might not pinch with a couple of Lakhs more.

But then, thats my opinion.
