Heading to the Himalayas: Journey to top of the world. EDIT: Videos added!

This is my first attempt to write a travelogue. I am trying to write this literally on the go. I will be starting tomorrow morning 3:15 AM for Jaipur from Mumbai. It is a solo drive I am attempting. My longest solo drive. Previous one is Mumbai to Anand (550 km).

From Jaipur my mama will be joining me for our drive to Himalayas. There is no strict plan that we will follow. We shall try and reach Leh in time to see the Ladakh festival before it gets over on 15th of Sep. Shall try and enter Spiti valley from Leh and finish off back in Jaipur.

I will try and post pics, and share experiences as we experience them. Need all your good wishes and support.

Am reachable on 9820291372.

Keep watching this space for latest on the road to Himalayas.

No, I am leaving on Sep 12, 300 am from Bombay/Thane, and hope to reach Kargil via Srinagar on Sep 14 night. After covering Zanskar Valley, I will be in Leh on Sep 17.

HVK, Wishing you all the best for a safe road trip. This will definitely lead to an trailblazing log with an update road conditions which all of us team bhpians look forward to. Not to say that photographs are a must. I hope I am not demanding too much from you. Best of Luck to you and your ride.

Started from home at 3.35 AM. The 1st 70KM road stretch was bad, traffic was worse. There after road improved but the traffic didn't. Got clear traffic post Surat.
Surprisingly did not come accross any car of whatsoever make till Surat, except one Endy, WagonR and Innova.

Its been a breeze past Baroda on the bypass. Currently Gliding on NE1. Its pleasant drive with 30 Deg outside and 24 deg inside.

Following HVK's EQ run time line.

Keep watching this thread for more.

Great start. Surprising to note traffic so early in the morning. No wonder this stretch is one of the busiest in the country. As you are solo take care in the afternoon when you can get a wee bit drowsy on smooth tarmac and less traffic. Especially around the Shyamlaji twisties between Ahmedabad and Udaipur. Have a pleasant trip and keep posting with photos only when you are stationary. Also are you using GPS on the trip or going by the log books of other Bhpians.

Took an hour and half for lunch break and rest. Also could not bear to see Iceberg splattered with mud while all around spotless vehicles were sppeding, so got the car cleaned as well.

Reached Jaipur last night at 9:15 pm. 1205 km of solo diving. This has been the longest for me. Good it was. Started this morning a little late at 4:30. My mama is driving. He owns a NHC and I am loving his comments about Iceberg.

The (no) road rom Dharuheda to delhi is a practice run for what we will experience on way to Leh. Touching outskirts of delhi. It is cluody. Occasional showers.

Am in touch with HVK. Any other BHPians around on way to Leh?

@dushmish: I like this "tweeting" journey log. Great to have almost online progress reports. Now if only you could beam in pictures as well!
