But you can stay overnight in Skandagiri.
I think even for Skandagiri, slowly acts/laws are coming in place to close it for
night treks. But as of today, people still trek out.

I think the ecosystem is getting littered by Pepsi cans and Lays packets.

Re: Nandi Hills - An early morning drive

Hey guys,
I'm in Bangalore for a couple of days and was thinking of going on a day drive/trip not too far away. A friend recommended Nandi Hills. Does anyone know what is the road condition to Nandi hills? Another question is what is the best route to take from Ulsoor Lake area?

Also, does anyone have any other suggestions for some other scenic locations nearby that I can visit and be back in a day? Inputs appreciated.

If you really want to do Nandi, then reach there at sun-rise, and get out by 9. BUt you'll then need to carry your snacks & tea/coffee. Long gone are the days when we sat on the rocky slopes, cooking Maggi & egg-burji at 11:00 am, and with hardly a soul around us.

You should also visit excellent Bhoga Nandishvara temple at foot hills in Nandi village. Built during Vijayanagr Period in 16th century.

Also visit the birthplace of Sir M Vishveshvaraiah in Muddenhalli.

This link will be helpful for you.

Re: Nandi Hills - An early morning drive

Have been looking for short getaway for some time now but was unable to decide the place. As with most IT guys in Bangalore, its difficult to get a proper & unplugged weekend off.

This means I won't be able to spare a whole day, but wanted a spot which would be refreshing enough! "Nandi Hills" was the most suggested location as I could leave by 3-4 AM on a Friday night and come back by 12 on Saturday (Brief, but refreshing!).

Route Taken : Koramangala > Ejipura > Domlur > IndiraNagar > Old Madras Road > Binniganahalli Flyover > BIAL > Nandi Hills Road

We started at 4 AM and reached the Nandi Hills checkpost by 6.

As already mentioned in the thread, getting there is pretty easy. Follow the distance markers on the BLR-HYB expressway after crossing Bangalore Airport and within 10 km.s after BIAL, you'll reach the junction of Nandi Hills road and you'll see a huge map of the place on your left. Form there, keep on going straight till the dead end and take left. After a while, you'll reach a junction which has a statue of a "Nandi", from there you have to take right, and you will reach the checkpost in no time.

By the time we finished our tea there, the gates were opened and we started the climb. The view was just awesome! Reached the top of the hill at 6.40 or so, paid the toll and moved on. The scenic viewpoints are a great thought and we were halting at almost every bend to take pics. Its a little difficult to find parking spots though on weekends.

Had agreat time up there and started from there finally at around 10, promising myself to go back whenever I get time again..

Tolls paid:

Bangalore-Hyderabad expressway - Rs. 115 (Onward+Return)
Nandi Hills entrance - Rs. 100 (For 4 people)

Fuel:

~Rs. 1200 (It was Rs. 80/lit. then )

Here are a few pics.. (Pardon the image quality, these are captured using my beloved Lumia 925 smartphone)

Re: Nandi Hills - An early morning drive

Went to Nandi Hills last weekend. I am new to driving, around 800km in Bangalore city and one month driving experience. So I was a bit excited as well as a little worried as I don't know how will I perform in the hills with my new Brio. So I took my brother also along with me, he is an experienced driver. I followed all the tips and tricks suggested by Team-BHP members in various posts. It was a nice trip, and I didn't face any challenge during the trip. I used first gear for some of the hair pin curves, but I am sure next time I can do those with second gear. Also I made sure that all windows are closed while parking at the top as some Team-BHP members mentioned about aggressive monkeys there.

I noticed some people left their car with windows opened and monkeys made it their roof top hotel for breakfast. Monkeys took all the food items from the car and sitting atop the car and enjoying the food.
