I finally bought my set from TyreStore on Greams Road. I had picked up my Qualis XM1+ there too, last year... |
can you please share tnagar guys number by pm and did you check with LAL? BTW i am still in a confusion whether to go for yoko or michellin

I did not check with Lal. I would stick to Michellin, amazing comfort and smooth drive... I feel I wasted 5 years on JK Tyres now... though I never had a puncture on the JKs, till about a month back, which is why I decided to change the tyres. Done only 24K on the JK in 5 years, but needed reliability as I often leave late from work, around 1am thereabouts...
When I switched the tyres on my qualis in 2010, I had checked with Lal and he was not cheaper than TyreStore. Actually TyreStore gave me free alignment, balancing, nitrogen and the mouths... this is usually thrown in anyway, but thought would mention it because in 2005 I was not given any of these free on my qualis, then done at International in Royapettah.
The t nagar number is 9840197123 - Poorna Tyres
Also be sure to check the date of manufacture...

One of the main difference between Hyundai Verna & Swift is the suspension. Verna has a soft suspension while that of Swift is relatively stiff thus providing Swift a lot better cornering ability than Verna. So even if Verna has put up tyres with lower aspect ratio, suspension take care that the ride is relatively smooth, while in Swift its not the case.
If you are planning to go 195/55/R16, then the grip level would remain the same as 195/60/R15 but the aspect ratio(the ratio of the side wall height to the tread width) would be 55 rather than 60 meaning, there should be a noticeable difference in terms of ride quality. 60 giving better ride quality than 55 as the tyre has higher wall height to take on the bumps or bad roads.
Any tyre with aspect ratio going below then the standard would compromise to some extent on the ride quality, however the grip of the car on higher speeds would be better due to wider tyres (like 195, 205).
It would be best if you can test drive someone's car who already has this setup to get a feel. Else would recommend as has been recommended by many other BHPians to go for 195/60/R15(better compromise between ride quality & grip on road). Choice is yours :) |
@saurabhdadhichi
Thanks for the tutorial :)
The reason im asking is because 195 55 16 is a new size in the market. No other car other than the new verna use that size ! IIRC that size was available only in a few other asian markets and for some reason never sold here. And even now, I don't know if its on sale .?
Bridgestone's B250 195|55|16 , Is that size on sale outside ?
I think 205 R16 is just too big a size for the swift. I have driven a swift on 16s and it's a totally different car! Heavy steering, felt very lethargic and slow. That size footprint is over kill for the swift.
If this 195 55 size can give me the ideal compromise between looks and ride than i want to somehow find them tires !
What do u guys think ?
Cheers .
Need Some advice,
My stock MRF's (on stock steel rims) are now finally giving up the ghost on my Vdi after 50k. Have finally decided to go for 185/70/R14. I have received the following quotes :
1. Michelin Energy XM1+ 185 70 R14 - INR 4500
2. Yoko A drives 185/70 R14 - INR 3955
While price is not really a concern as the net difference between the two is not much, my primary concerns are:
1. What is the impact on the suspension, esp wrt to Warranty. ( I have extended warranty, although it is valid only for 60k on suspension)
2. My priority is for comfort. From what i gather the impact on fuel economy is marginal
3. Unlike the old tyres, where in tyre rotation was easy as just a simple swap, what is the case in these two tyres?
Also was looking at Apollo Acelere but the price was around 4k for the size mentioned, hence dropped it for the Yoko's.
Would really appreciate the insight as was loooking to change before the monsoon hits.
Cheers

Hi all.. I am having a swift vdi abs. My car has done 12.5k km as of now and am planing for a tyre change within a month with expection of better grip and handling than the stock ones without much compromise on comfort of the stock one. Checking the error due to tyre size change from the stock tyre size, this is what I got to see :
1. From 165/80 R 14 to 185/70 R 14, difference in circumference : -15.71 (-0.81%)
2. From 165/80 R 14 to 195/65 R 14, difference in circumference : -32.99 (-1.69%)
3. From 165/80 R 14 to 195/60 R 15, difference in circumference : -14.45 (-0.74%)
This shows that the difference in circumference and error is least in 195/60 R 15 than 185/70 R 14. Dint want to go for 205 as I dont want to end up on harsh ride.
My preference was on changing the tyre on stock rim first hence did a check on than and found that 185/70 R 14 will be the only possible upgrade without violating any rules as 195/65 R 14 is prescribed to have a minimum rim size of 5.5 where the stock rim is 5.
So sumerizing things, for 14'' upgrade, the best is 185/70 R 14 (Michelin Energy XM1+ rocks on all parameters except Bridgestone leading in Grip alone) and for 15'' upsize, the optimum one with least compromise on comfort is 195/60 R 15.
Shortlisted 185/70 R 14 Michelin Energy XM1+ as of now but may switch to 195/60 R 15 if my budget allows me for alloy rims but this may take a little more time.
@Vibhu f430 : Checked on 195/55 R 16. The error on this size over the stock one is 0.21% but the problem is that 55 profile will give you a harsher ride than 60 profile tyre which is already harsher than the stock tyre. I would rather suggest 195/60 R 15.
Will update after upgrading my tyres !!!

My vote is on the Michelins as I just got them for my Swift and feel my 5 year old is now a new car!

No issues regarding warranty as this is the stock tyre size on the ZXI and the VDi ABS.
Swift VDi ABS stock tyre size is 165/80 R 14.

No problems whatsoever. Upgraded to 185 section on delivery day and no issues raised from Maruti. In fact they asked me if I wanted to do a tire swap and upgrade.

+1.
Need to replace the tyres, Currently running Apollo Acelere, they have run for 30k km, but the front one have worn out quickly in comparison to the rear ones.
What are the other options? Is Bridgestone a better option? I will avoid Acelere.
What size are you looking at ? 14 or 15 ? Alloys or steel rims ?
I missed it. The car is on 195/60/15 with steel rims on new honda city.

Hi Gill,
Two of the best tyres in that size are Yokohama C drive and the Michelin Primacy LC. Then you also have the Bridgestone Turanza80 and the Goodyear Assurance.
My Cedia also has the same tyre size and is shod with Yokohama AVSdB V 550.
This is an excellent tyre, very silent and grippy but this is a
unidirectional tyre. If that is acceptable, then this is an excellent product.
195/60R15 is the correct +2 upsize for a diesel Swift that originally comes with the 165 width tire. Can you advise the size of the honda rims as in the width 5J, 5.5J so on and so forth. You will find this stamped on the rim though I believe that should not be the cause for this type of wear. Have you had the alignment and the front suspension checked. If not then have that looked at too.
