Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi
A friend of mine wants to replace his Michelin XM2 185/65 R15. But apparently you no longer get Michelins for this size of tyres. Any recommendations for good alternate tyres? He was very happy with the Michelins because they are soft, low noise, good grip and good braking.

Just got my 2015 Ertiga VXi Tyres changed from JK Vectra to Yokohama BluEarth GT AE51 in stock size (185/65 R15) and must say that the ride quality has improved to a great extent. The new tyres are soft, and have barely any noise. I could hear the engine noise inside the cabin now, which could not be heard due to tyre noise from the old tyres.

However, I cannot comment much about how it would compare with Michelin. I too wanted the Michelin XM2 Plus but due to lack of availability settled with Yokohama Tyres and must say I am satisfied with the change.

Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi All,

I too have few questions on Ertiga tire replacement. However my requirement is a bit different..Please consider the following points.

(a) I am a good driver but my knowledge of automobiles is very poor and I have never tried to learn either...unlike in tech/gadgets where I have expertise
(b) Hence I don't take much care of my car..Except the yearly maintenance.
(c) Since I came to know that more air means more mileage..I fill all my 4 tires with 36psi. I believe its too high and not all four need same pressure
(d) I purely rely on my service center in Bangalore - Mandovi - to do tire rotation and other such things..
(e) My car is 10 years old and has been driven less than 30K km since I prefer using public transport in Bangalore
(f)I take the car out only if my family is with me.

Given its covered less than 30K km..I thought the tires will last for a lot longer. Last week I took a 1850KM trip to Goa via all temple towns in Karnataka and my front left had a puncture while driving on some rough roads between Horanadu and Sringeri...

The puncture guy in Sringeri who looked at it said that its useless to repair the tire as its beyond repair and he also said while the tire may not have run much..its become harder due to age and hence easily prone to punctures and damage.

I took it to a puncture guy in Goa to get a second opinion and he too said that this tire has to be thrown. Since I had to cover another 800 or so km back to Bangalore..I felt very uncomfortable..so went to a tire dealer in Madgaon and bought a Ceat milaze for my spare tire.

Now I am back in Bangalore and when I look at my four tires currently on the car..it does look very old. But after two puncture specialists gave the same opinion on my punctured spare tyre...I feel its time to change the tires.

Please clarify the following:
(a) After ten years of ownership - does it make sense/is it a good practice to replace the tires irrespective of the usage/mileage?
(b) If answer is yes - for someone whose knowledge of cars is limited to just driving - should i just go with the cheapest branded one like the ceat milaze which on amazon is around the 4200 rupees mark?
(c) Does paying 30-50% more for brands like Yokohoma make sense for someone like me who never complains on grip or noise levels or comfort...since I haven't seen or experienced anything better?
(d) I see many Indian and Foreign brands..pls suggest 1-2 that I may consider. Are there large enough difference between these brands?

Given I dont drive much..I dont expect to replace my car for another five years at least and hence just a decent quality tyre that is safe and gives good mileage.

Many thanks in advance for all your help!!

Continental UC6, eyes closed. I replaced original JK on my 2016 Ertiga with UC6 after 50K. Fantastic tyres to consider. They are at number 2 after Michelins. Go for it.

Should I go for 185 or 195? Folks on this forum seem to suggest that we can go for 195

There's no point in upsizing the tyres to 195-section It's better to stick to the stock size, mainly due to the low usage of the car.

I went for 185, the stock size since my driving is very limited now a days. You can certainly go for 195 but with mileage reduction of 1-2 kmpl approximately.

Instead visit a tyre shop and buy there with installation. I always visit tyre empire shops in Bangalore.
