i have 175 /80 r13 on my altura ,done about 40 K on various surfaces ranging from semi-rural to express highway and never faced any problems with it. I know this raises the car height but actually the whole change was meant for exactly the same thing.

contemplating 185/65 r15 alloys now

My Baleno is going in for a tyre change.
I have the stock 165/80 r13 on the OE alloys.
The best upsize that does not disturb OD too much appears to be 185/70 r13.
The dealer is giving me 400/- back per tyre (run 20k kms)
He is offering Michelin XM1 for 2840/- per and Yokohama S306 for 2300/- per.
My questions:
1. Michelins are supposed to be the best, should I go for the Yoko, after all it is so much cheaper. What is the feedback on the Yoko s306?
2. Should I change all 5? I plan to run the car another 3 years/40k kms at least.
3. Lastly, should I opt for an unidirectional tyre, if so which one?

@filcord: I would suggest you go for the Michelins. For the 13 inchers I think thats the best bet interms of performance and ride quality. am sure it will last 40 K.

Ideally changing all 5 is recommended. Do as per your budget.

Unidirectional tyre depends on your driving style. If you want more performance then go for it. Availability in 13 inchers is limited to a very few choices. Keep the spare tyre as non unidirectional. just my 2 cents.

you could also look at potenza g3s. i had them in my baleno in the same size(185/70 r13) and was very happy with them. sadly the baleno is no longer with me.

Another thing, I'm becoming a bit vain in my dotage, and I want the tyre to look good (without sacrificing comfort). I see the uni-directionals looking really good. Would they also give comfort?
I'm okay with the uni-directional part, and I rarely rip the car (as I said, I'm in my dotage).

Correction to my post #154 earlier. I misquoted the price of the Michelins. In the size I need, 185/70 r13, it's Rs 3640/- per piece. Rs 2840/- was for 175/70 r13.

i am using yokohama c drive 185/65/R14 ( unidirectional and cost 2600) and found it to be totally noiseless; previously had bridgestones, and some newzeland brand and mrf. good driveability on straight line and turns. tested upto 160kmph. recommend it for family men.
this size helps retain oem wheel and tyre in spare since cant keep yokohama in spare due unidirectional nature.

just fitted michelin energy 185/65 R14 on my car ,its a 2001 model and came with 13 inch rims. looked around for alloys , dint see any tangiable benefits in spending around 16-17000 ,so just fitted swift 14 inch rims. have driven around 300 kms and am pleased with the performance to start with.

I fitted yesterday Michelin XM1 (they do not have "Energy" attrributes in 13" size) 185/70r13 (Rs 3640/- each) for my existing Bridgestone S322 165/80 r13.
Fitted on to existing OE alloys.
I had run 20k kms on the OE tyres, dealer gave me buy-back of Rs 1000/- per tyre.
The new tyres have been filled at 30psi. Recommended for the OEs was 29 psi. Let me see if there's any change in ride quality.
Only fly in the ointment is that dealer lost one centre cap of the alloy. Hope a replacement is available.
I have ridden only an hour in the new tyres, Feels a little bouncier, don't know if it's the pressurisation or the tubeless nature of the tyre.

It's the excess air pressure which is leading to the bumpy ride. Reduce the pressure to 28 psi, the ride will smoothen out considerably.

Now after one week and about 500 km on new Michelin XM1 tyres, I have nothing but praise for them. Road grip is tremendous, I have maintained tyre pressure at 31 psi all round, and cannot complain about the ride at all. The comfort is measurably better than the earlier Bridgestone tube-type. Whether this is due only to the tubeless nature of the Michelins I don't know.
The only grouse I can have is that the tyres are not as flashy as I would have liked, I wanted them to shout "Hey look at me" but they look much the same as any other tyre. Hell - that's my vain side talking, more important is the security they provide.

Has anyone tried 205/50 R16 ? Seen it on a blue baleno near indira nagar, done from torque i believe. Does this scrape? (assuming 205s need the wheel well to be bent)

If we put 16 inchers ideal is 205/45 R16 but thats really bad ride. so checking out this option.
