Since we are talking about prices, and I am in the market for replacing my two front tyres, here are Pune prices:
Size: 195/60/15
BS Turanza ER60 INR 4850
BS Potenza RE88 INR 4750
Michelin PLC INR 5500

@selfdrive: What size is this ER300 on your Jazz? If ER300 is better than ER60, then it makes more sense for me to get ER300 (since they are cheaper too) on my Cedia.

I was charged 4575 per tyre for the ER300 (185/60 R15). I did not know of the ER60 at the time, perhaps I would have opted for those

How are BS Turanzas ER30 for Laura TSI? How about Potenza GIII? I am trying to find the ideal balance between robustness for Indian road conditions and pliant ride with low tire noise. I feel Michelin/Yoko/Conti will let me down and die before they do their 40k since I am likely to encounter not-so-ideal roads on long drives, when I am sometimes not in a mood to baby the tires. Also speed rating of V or above is absolutely required.

Will scrap the stock GE NCT5 tomorrow. Any takers? You can get a 40 km run 195/65/15 for 10% off the shelf price

If I can't figure out alternatives I'll quietly go and put M PLC since that seems to be the most popular upgrade for Laura TSI at least.

On a sidenote - Isn't it ok to just upgrade the 4 tires and let the spare be as it came. Ofcourse tire rotation then will be only between the four fitted tires and the spare only used in emergency?

I don't think we need a Speed rating V tyre on indian roads we can't maintain more than 150 for a long period of time and H rating which has max speed limit of 210 km/hr can never be reached on any indian roads. It is too dangrerous to cross 150 kmph on Indian roads including some of our best highways.

There is a reason why the manufacturer provides V rated tyres on this car, and that is, it is easily capable of reaching those speeds. Whether one would like to maintain speeds like 200+ is obviously very subjective and also very difficult on most roads in India, but not all roads in India.
Do I see myself crossing 200-220 anytime during my ownership of the car - Yes, if an opportunity presents itself (and my wife is not a passenger). Do I want my car to be equipped to handle that occasion - ABSOLUTELY!
Also I think insurance guys will take a hard look at anyone replacing tyres and getting ones lower speed rated than the OEM tyres. Those are some of the reasons why my tire upgrade has to be V rated or above.

2. Bridgestone Turanza GR60
3. Bridgestone Potenza GIII (anyone know the price?)

As per your priority the order would be

Primacy LC > Yokohama V550 or Apollo Aceleres > Turanza GR80

Turanza GR80 would the costliest of the lot.
V550 / Aceleres are the best VFM tires you can get.

You mean GR 80 is more than Primacy LC (which is 9k)? That's news!

I don't think I'll look at Aceleres. Rather go with Potenza GIII at that price point, whatsay?

How about How about Maxxis MA-V1? Someone said they are cheap as well as good? But are they available in Mumbai?

Last i checked, GR80s were costlier than Primacy by 100~200 Rs. Prices have gone up and down due to the ISI mark standardisation.

Avoid GIIIs, they aren't worth it anymore.

Maxxis can be considered if you are looking at a short term investment like use--> enjoy --> throw away @ 30k kms.. Hope you got my point

And, Why no aceleres & yoko ?

Which tyre shop ? I just checked at Lokmanya Tyres and they quoted my INR 4925 for Turanza ER60

I had changed to Turanza ER 60 ( 205/15) for my Octavia TDI about 2 years back. This has done over 62k kms now and still has 10% tread left in it- with completely even wear out.
And the good part is , it still does not have any side wall cuts , in spite of frequent drives through the pothole ridden Palakkad- Thrissur stretch . This is start contrast to the OEM GoodYears, which we quite prone to cuts.

Definitely. I got them as standard fitment on my Accord. Have clocked over 41k, and they look relatively new. Loads and loads of highway driving, and extreme conditions. Excellent grip, perfect handling.
