Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, 1921 Silver Ghost | Conceptcarz.com - Pictures, Pricing, Information, Wallpaper, History

I've erroneously posted 2 different cars of the same page. Conceptcarz seem to have mixed the photos up. I presume the grey one is the India Car 47 AG. Its definitely a pre 1924 Ghost with no front brakes.
Later cars had radiator shutters. Springfield Ghosts had horizantal as well as vertical shutters.

The maroon one is a US built Springfield Ghost with the American barrel headlights, it shouldn't have been posted, I was in a hurry at the time
I'll ask the mods to remove it.

The Yellow "Khan" 1913 Silver Ghost is shown on page 16-17 of "The Classic Rolls Royce" by G.N.Georgano and is identified as Chassis 2366

Nice collection. I think DLK 641 was a PI ? This was the car we had a bit of a race with down the Gurgaon road in one of the Delhi rallies, I was in the Hispano H6B. What fun!
The 1912 Ghost is lovely and still has the original trembler coil and box.
In the late eighties the father asked me to work on their cars but I was too busy.

Julian its the same as the car I posted earlier, a Bharatpur Ghost. Interestingly the website states the car had its body made in India by a French coachbuilder (explains the odd styling and workmanship, but we still need to get more history on the Bharatpur cars)







By the way those peculiar artillery wheels were originally on the following car (your Bus) as I recall seeing in a period picture

I bet it was the French Motor Car Co. in Calcutta who built the Darbhanga Delauney-Belleville body.

For twenty years I yearned to tackle that Delauney-Belleville and just after we moved back to UK it was bought and available for me to restore. One of the biggest regrets of my life. I know its a 2 only smiley rule but these are dead horses and brick walls.

Actually the French Motor Car Co. still exists (on Acharya JC Bose Rd., formerly Lower Circular Road) though, like most Calcutta companies, it had the usual bout of strikes and lockouts in the sixties. My grandfather used to deal with them for parts. There was nothing French about it, except the name. If this is the Kanpur car, it was converted from a 40-50hp armoured car of which there were many in India after WWI. They even had a configuration for Indian service.

Talking of Calcutta, Pradyumna Mallick (from the famous merchant and art connoisseur family of North Calcutta) had amassed 34 Rolls Royces when he committed suicide in the mid-thirties. My grandfather went to buy some for his motor-car business in the Bihar coalfields but told me he found the prices high (for him, that is): actually the prices were shockingly low.

Unfortunately this is the main reason why so many of these cars left India before the ban was introduced and they had been exported legally right back to the 1930s.

Have any of the RR's survived in the family? Any old pictures?

I think there was one other gentleman from Calcutta, I forget his name, through whom some fabulous cars passed. There was once an article on his cars in an old Indian Auto journal. Will try to find that copy.
