Thank You

To begin with a big thank you to all the BHPians (and Non-BHPians) that turned up for the meet Eddie, Dr Kanbur it was great meeting you and your HVOCT gang from Thane we eagerly look forward to you guys participating in more of our clubs activities.

Siddharth cant wait to see your pics buddy, I saw you get into a great vantage position to get great pics at the Glaxo Building. Srinee great to see you, sorry about the incident at the fuel station we missed your 126 and 220S.

As you can see from the pics the meet was a little bit Ponton heavy (I am not complaining.) This time we had an official photographer so I did not bother to take my camera, so I will post some more pics as soon as i get my hands on them.

Can anyone guess from Eddie's pics what the chronolgical sequence of the respective Pontons??

Classic/Vintage Mercedes-Benz parts

Guys I am doing a market research on the parts market for vintage/classic cars in India. I have already talked to a few of the owners and BHPians. It would be really helpful if members of the Mercedes-Benz Club of India spare some time to talk to me.

The objective is to find if the there is potential in India for Mercedes-Benz to start a part supply business for vintage/classic cars.

So, guys please PM me if you would want to help me out.

Sunil,

I dont think the 6.3 was out in 1963, 1968 is more like it.

Of course this is your car and you're free to do what you like, but I think you should put in something like this or just stick to stock:
The wheels you are talking about are the much sought after original AMG's.

This car, a 380sl was owned by a person who didnt see eye to eye with me. He also had an immaculate silver W123 230E, one of the best examples i had seen. Unfortunately (fortunately, for some) his bubble burst and i have seen the W123 literally go from mint to junk condition. This car was also suffering the same plight, parked in his building at Walkeshwar with a torn top and dented front with broken headlights, not to mention deflated tyres. Then one day it just disappeared.

Im happy to see whom it belongs to now( i saw the emblem or should i say coat of arms) synonymous with the present collector who is like an older brother. I know now that it will be cared for as it deserves.

IMHO these rims, when you see them in person, take your breath away, of course its a personal choice.

The 300sel 6.3 would be a W109 and was made from 1967 onwards (as Alvis has pointed out) featuring the amazing M100 V-8 engine. There was one black with MRG registration. I remember riding in it when I was a kid. It was owned by a Parsi gentleman who was my older brother's friend. I dont know if there are any other.

There is a 280sel 3.5 owned by a good friend and a car collector from Pune. The car is currently under restoration.

I know of two Mercedes 600s in India, both with collectors. One is the immaculate Presidential Pullman in a private collection and the other ex Iran Consulate, is under restoration, also privately owned.

Nope. Only rumours here and there but there is a 300sl roadster in the royal Gondal garage.

I know of at least two Pagoda tops in Bombay itself. Im sure there are many more.

Thank You So much for the information. About the 280 sel, I was asking about a 280 se and not the sel. The 280se ,you must be knowing is a convertible, and also had one of the best V8 by Mercedes.

Actually Sunil you only specified a 280se which does not make it a convertible. The V-8 prior to 1970 was available only in the coupes and convertibles. From 1970 onwards it was also available on the sedan in the SE and the SEL versions. It came with the legendary M116 V-8 engine mated with a four speed automatic as standard which was not driven by a torque converter but a fluid flywheel. A four speed manual was available on request as an option which was cheaper than the automatic version.

Since your query said specifically 1970, it does not automatically mean the 3.5 a coupe/convertible. It could also include the sedan

You seem quite enthusiastic about Vintage and Classic cars.
No offence meant but I find, in many of your 11 posts so far, you are enquiring about the owners of a particular car or whether these cars are present in India. Are you a collector, buyer, seller? I dont think you have posted your introduction as yet.
I would suggest you post an introduction of yourself to get everyone to know you better.

Also while you are at it, please go through the board rules, that will introduce you to the forum regulations and also tell you that giving out manes of owners of cars is not allowed, except in certain cases. Also while posting pictures it is mandatory to blank the plates, of course except in certain cases. You will find all that and more in the board rules.

Thanks, Happy Bhp-ing

Nice to hear of the great Mercs in India.

Regarding the 300 SL Gullwing I remember seeing a website www.mallyacollection.com which lists a 1955 300 SL Gullwing as part of his collection. It further goes on to mention that the car was imported into Inida in 1999. Is this correct ??

Also I ws wondering if there are any 450 SEL 6.9 sedans in India.

I recently had the good fortune to dirive an example here in Abu Dhabi and it blew my mind. The raw power and acceleration are amazing as is its thirst for gas.

Very well explained, V-16.

"I recently had the good fortune to dirive an example here in Abu Dhabi and it blew my mind. The raw power and acceleration are amazing as is its thirst for gas."

Surprised that there are still some nice 6.9's in Abu Dhabi. Is the example you saw for sale by any chance, if so please do let me know as I would be very keen to have a look. In my view the penultimate Q car.

wasif, I think the site says that the 300SL gullwing is in the US, not India.

Hey Alvis.

Will check if the 5.9 is up for sale and revert.

Regarding the Mallya Gullwing I misread the imported to USA as India.

Regret the incorrect info.
