"400 rare bikes roar on Jawa Yezdi Day in Bengaluru"

The distinct rumble of the Yezdi Roadking or Jawa 350 motorcycles has become rare these days. However, it was different on Saturday morning. The roar of nearly 400 such mean machines left people awestruck at the 14th International Jawa Yezdi Day at Bowring Institute here.

"Finland auctions vintage Soviet cars dumped by migrants at Arctic border"

Sale items are showcased as asylum seekers' abandoned cars are auctioned in Salla, northern Finland.

On Friday, Soviet-era Volgas and a rusty 1970s Lada station wagon were the main attractions at a vintage car auction held in Salla, a northern town 20 km (12 miles) from the Russian border.

Finnish customs put more than 100 Soviet-era cars on the auction block after they were left behind by asylum seekers. The Volgas fetched prices up to 640 euros ($713.02) and the Lada estate car, with now-rare circular headlights, was picked up by a Finnish collector for 280 euros ($311.95).

Important point for general information:

As per the Central Motor Vehicles Rules , 1993 Section 125(1) and (1A) manufacturers shall equip one year from the date of commencement of the CMV Rules 1993, every motor vehicle other than motor cycles and three wheelers of engine capacity not exceeding 500 cc with seat belts for:-

a) for driver and the person occupying the front seat.

b) for a person occupying front facing rear seat.

(Hence older motor vehicles do not fall under the ambit of seat belt rules)

What is the reason for any doubt that old vehicles(pre 1994) fall under seat belt rules. Since 1994 all car manufacturers in INDIA were providing seat belts and since 2003 all passengers cars are fitted with rear seat belts
Also retrofitting of seat belts on cars which do not have provision for the same (eg :1989 model ambassador) is a safety hazard and hence illegal
Another point to be noted those pre1994 model cars which had seatbelts provided by the manufacturer (eg:maruti800 Deluxe,PP delux) etc the front seat occupants are supposed to necessarily use them,the above clause in MVI act cannot be used as an excuse!

This reminded me the efforts our Indian company Escorts Group undertook to manufacture Citroen 2CV cars in India in 1980's.This never happened as otherwise the public sector company Maruti would face a stiff competition.

The car seems to be a late 40s Chevy?
