"LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL"

There are certain vehicles that you buy because you have to and then there are certain ones you buy because your heart wants you to. It was a Tata Safari that my heart yearned for," says Pavan Kadam, a vintage car restorer and one of the founding members of 'Tata Safari Group' (TSG).

The club came into existence in 2008 with Ravindra Hanumappa, Raghavendra Kempe Gowda and Hemant, along with Pavan. When they realised that there are many others like them, they got in touch with others and started a WhatsApp group with 112 members. Soon enough, there was a Facebook page that connected like-minded people across India.

Today, they are a large group that meet on a weekly basis for fun drives and quarterly cross-country drives in their favourite vehicle.

Pavan says, "We are active on social media and on WhatsApp. There is always something new that we discuss about and it's always a fun chat. This club has become like a small family in the last few years."

Recently the group travelled from the city to Leh in two cars, crossing some arduous stretches in the process. Soon they hope to travel to the North East and explore the places. "One of the major agendas we have, as a group, is to travel as much as we can. We also partake in charity events where we distribute books for rural education. During the 'World on a Plate' event, we transported 2,000 food packets to the slums in the city," he explains.

For Ravindra Hanumappa, an IT consultant, it is the meetups with other like-minded members that are the most enjoyable. He says, "I enjoy travelling whenever possible and make new friends. This club is the perfect way to do so and there's never a dull day with them. We do a lot of impromptu meetups for coffee breaks, family reunions and breakfast stops. It's great to see this small group grow the way it has."

Owning a Tata Safari was a long-cherished dream for Sohail Ahmed, an entrepreneur. When he heard about the club, he knew that he had to be a part of it. He shares, "I've wanted to buy this car ever since it launched - it is the first SUV in India, after all! I love how we all come together, even though we are all different individuals in various domains and work styles. We unite just for one product and I've made a lot of friends through the club."

Srikant Rajan, a business consultant says, "TSG is a very supportive team and I am happy to a part of it. Buying this car was just a given for me since I've always wanted it and my dad was an ex-employee of the company. It's such a thrill to discuss my love for the car with other like-minded people."

Apart from the regular meeting and charity work, they also keep in touch with technical help. Sanjay Kumar K, a software engineer, says, "Since we are a very active club, we are always there to help when in need. We have a few tie-ups with service centres who help us in every possible situation. All this makes it the best car to have."

Delivery manager Harsha BS shares, "I enjoy the small drives we have on Sundays, the good breakfast afterwards, a walk in the park and the time we spend chatting." In the future, the club hopes to find more service centres for the cars, continue supporting social causes, meet as regularly as possible and travel as much as they can.
