Many thanks for the picture of Charminar. Would you by any chance have more pictures of Charminar from the same era from various angles? It would be interesting to see if there was a temple attached to it back then.

Actually, although its rather hard to tell from the pic., going by the shape of the rear numberplate and the rear windscreen I suspect its a Super 10.

The Temple came up recently according to the The Hindu Photo Archives, the other side of the Minar currently has the temple

Lovely old pics.!
Incidentally, the marine drive pic. has one Herald seen in it and the Churchgate one a Gazel!
The latter was actually of the Eros cinema parking lot in the foreground.

Might I ask, where has the third picture been photographed ? The Howrah Bridge, I presume?

Secondly, interesting to note the participation of the Mark II Herald (Did Mark IIIs exist?,BTW) in the rally pictures.

I was under the impression, Heralds were not used at rallies? Fiats, clearly were preferred, back in the day.

Cheers!

Lol...wrong impression mate! They were indeed used for rallying extensively in the 60s/70s! Harit had even posted pics. of some such Heralds in another thread on tbhp some time ago.
Fiats became common much later, circa late 70s onwards.

Okay! Now I comprehend! The Herald Mark III was the four door Herald.

Another query - Was the Gazel completely indigenous? OR did it share the Monocoque (Was'nt the Herald a Separate Chassis car, like the Yank tanks of yore, BTW) , various assemblies with the Herald preceding it?

I am quite inquisitive on the Gazel, as even though the Tata's Indica is widely known as India's first indigenous car, I think, the Standard Gazel deserves that merit.
Most of my classmates (teens in the 14-15 age group) don't even know about the once famed Standard Motor cars.

Heck! They cannot even differentiate between a Super Select and an Ambassador for that matter. Makes me feel sad!

Cheers!

Fintail/Heckflosse!
