2017 Volvo XC60 launched at Rs. 55.90 lakh

Volvo has launched its all-new 2017 XC60 in India. The 2nd-gen XC60 is only available in the top-spec Inscription trim which is priced at Rs. 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The new XC60 is based on Volvo’s latest Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) which also underpins the XC90, S90 and V90. It measures 4,688 mm in overall length, 1,902 mm in width and 1,658 mm in height, while the wheelbase is 2,865 mm. The XC60 has a 505-litre boot and can tow up to 2,400 kg. The SUV comes with a 71-litre fuel tank.

The new XC60 looks like a compact version of the XC90. It features a similar front-end design with a large chrome grille with vertical slats and the 'iron mark' logo in the centre. The grille is flanked by LED headlights and DRLs shaped like Thor’s hammer. The rear features L-shaped tail lights that follow the contours of the rear hatch.

The cabin of the new XC60 is quite similar to the XC90’s interior. The dashboard, steering wheel and centre console have been borrowed from the larger SUV. The seats are trimmed in Nappa leather, while wooden panels are used along the dashboard, door panels and the central tunnel. The front seats are ventilated and come with massage function. A 9-inch touchscreen sits in the centre of the dashboard, which operates the 4-zone climate control. The instrument panel comprises of a 12.3-inch digital display.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, twin-turbocharged diesel engine that produces 232 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 480 Nm of peak torque @ 1,750-2,250 rpm. The XC60 gets Volvo's Power Pulse Technology. It uses compressed air to spool up the turbochargers instantly thereby reducing turbo-lag. It is coupled with an 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifts. Power is sent to all the wheels, however, by default the car is front-wheel-drive only. Up to 50% of the total power can be sent to the rear wheels when needed. The driver can choose from five different driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Dynamic, Off-Road and Individual.

The launch version of the XC60 Inscription includes the Tech Pack which adds air-suspension, Nappa leather, ventilated front seats with massage function, blind spot indication system (BLIS) and cross-traffic alert, 360-degree camera and heads-up display. Other standard features include a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, panoramic sunroof, distance alert, front & rear parking sensors and a hands-free powered tail gate.

The new XC60 also gets safety aids like steer assist, city safety system which includes pedestrian and cyclist detection and can apply the brakes automatically to avoid a collision at speeds up to 50 km/h, oncoming lane mitigation to avoid head-on collisions, ABS and ESC.

The new XC60 comes in 4 exterior colours – Crystal White Pearl, Black Max, Havana Brown and Pine Grey with 3 interior colour options - Amber, Maroon Brown or Blond.
