2023 MG4 EV unveiled with 443 BHP & 452 km range

The electric crossover will rival the likes of the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 & Volkswagen ID.3.

MG has released the first set of official images of its upcoming MG4 electric crossover. The new MG4 EV is said to go on sale in the UK this September.

The MG4 EV also debuts the brand's new Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) architecture, which will underpin several new models in the future. The company states that the new platform supports wheelbases ranging from 2650 mm to 3100 mm, as well as battery packs from 40 kWh to 150 kWh. The MG4 electric crossover measures 4,287 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width and 1,506 mm in height and has a 2,705 mm wheelbase. This puts it in direct contention with the likes of the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Volkswagen ID.3.

MG has confirmed that its new EV will initially come with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain with a choice of 167 BHP or 201 BHP. There will, however, be a more powerful 443 BHP dual-motor four-wheel-drive version which will be introduced at a slightly later stage. This performance version is said to be capable of sprinting from 0 - 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and will have a top speed limited to 160 km/h.

The base 167 BHP variant will come with a 51 kWh battery, while the 201 BHP and 443 BHP trims get a larger 64 kWh battery pack. MG states that the WLTP range of the electric crossover will be between 218 - 281 miles (350 - 452 km).

In terms of design, the MG4 features a distinctive front end without a grille. It gets aggressively designed LED headlamps and a large MG logo at the centre. The electric crossover also comes with a glass roof, full-width LED tail lights, a skid plate on the rear bumper and aero-style alloy wheels. Inside, the MG4 features a free-standing infotainment screen at the centre, a digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel and plenty of other features and tech.
