2nd-gen Mini Countryman to be launched on May 3, 2018

Mini has announced that it will launch the second-generation Countryman in India on May 3, 2018. While the car made its global debut at the 2016 Los Angeles International Auto Show, it was first shown in India at the 2018 Auto Expo.

The new Countryman is 202 mm longer and 33 mm wider than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also grown by 75 mm. The car has an inverted U-shaped grille flanked by new headlamps with LED DRL rings and a dual-tone front bumper which houses a set of circular fog lamps.

The vehicle gets a contrast roof and ORVM housings. It has black plastic cladding around the wheel arches and silver trim along the door sills. The rear features LED tail lamps that are larger than the outgoing model, a roof spoiler and a chrome number plate garnish. The dual-tone rear bumper has an integrated scuff plate and twin chrome exhaust tips.

On the inside, new Countryman gets circular dials for the instrument cluster and a 3-spoke, multi-functional steering wheel. The circular centre console houses a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and vertical air vents. The car comes equipped with features such as a rear view camera, park assist, automatic tailgate, rain sensing wipers and a Harman Kardon audio system.

In India, the Mini Countryman will be offered in 3 variants - Cooper S, Cooper SD and Cooper S JCW Inspired. Two engine options are available, which include a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol with 189 BHP and 280 Nm @ 1,350 rpm and a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 188 BHP and 400 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
