5th-gen Lexus RX SUV unveiled globally

Lexus also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the RX at a later date.

Lexus has taken the wraps off the 2023 RX SUV. The fifth-generation model is based on a new platform and is offered with petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrain options.

The 2023 Lexus RX is based on the TNGA-K platform. Compared to its predecessor, the new model has a 60 mm longer wheelbase, while the rear overhang has been reduced by 60 mm. The SUV also weighs 90 kg less.

As far as styling is concerned, the new RX looks like a typical Lexus. It has the Spindle Grille at the front with Lexus’ signature LED headlamps on either side. The SUV has a coupe-like roofline that blends into a steeply raked rear windshield. At the back, the car gets sleek LED taillights with a light bar in the centre.

Inside, the RX comes equipped with a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster, among other features. Also, there are six interior colour schemes to choose from.

The 2023 Lexus RX is available with three engine options. These include a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 275 BHP and 429 Nm. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and comes in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations.

The second engine option is a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol hybrid that makes 246 BHP and 316 Nm. It is paired with a CVT and an all-wheel-drive system. Finally, the RX500 F Sport packs a 2.4-litre petrol hybrid that makes 367 BHP and 550 Nm. The motor is mated to a 6-speed automatic.

Lexus also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version at a later date.
