Advice needed: Pre-owned car under 7 lakhs that can seat 5 comfortably

The primary requirement is that the car should be able to seat 5 people in comfort, as this is going to be a primary car for the next 2-3 years until we switch to EV.

BHPian Batman_ab recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hello everyone! This is my first query on the forum. Forgive me for any mistakes. My family's looking to buy a pre-owned diesel car. We were willing to shift to EV but we have long route travel of atleast 300 kms once a week so cannot really go for EV ( kona and zs are out of budget) and hoping to shift to EV in 2 years when there will be more products in the market and probably Tatas EVs would have matured by then. But till then ICE it is.

The main criteria :

1. Good fuel efficiency - atleast 19 in city and 22+ on highway.

2. Seating capacity for 5 people , as this is going to be a primary car for next 2-3 years until we switch to EV.

3. Budget 7lakh +/- 1lakh.

Cars explored:

1. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz - I can find only limited models of Ciaz diesel in lucknow and finding good condition model in them is even more difficult.

2. Honda City Diesel - We recently sold our 2014 city VX IDTEC so do not really want to go for it again.

3. Maruti Suzuki Brezza - Not really a fan of it but still if we find a good model we can go for it . There are not good condition models available in lucknow and are either overpriced or high driven.

4. Maruti S-cross - My brothers are insisting the back seat angle is not good and is tiring and they are not considering it. We are able to find less than 70000kms driven facelft model for 7.5-8 lakh aprox

5. Ford Ecosport - worried about the after sales service and resale value.

I am personally not looking to buy a Dzire / swift / or a compact sedan .

Cars available :

1- Ciaz Jan 2016 ZDI+SHVS 67000kms run service record shows last service at 52900kms around in august. Car looks good .

Demand- 6,50,000 which is high.

2. Ciaz zeta 2018 - 29000kms demand 9,15,000 the car's at true value so its going to be costly i believe.

3. Ciaz alpha 2018 - 72000kms they're demanding 8,50,000 which i believe can be brought down to 790000 or 8 lakh. Car looks good in condition.

4. Ford Ecosport 2018 titanium i am able to find a 2018 45000 kms run titanium model, sellers saying 7lakh last.

Is the price good for this model of Ecosport and what is the future resale possibility for it.

If no pre-owned car works out we will buy Tata Altroz XZ+ diesel .

Can you all suggest me what to do? What should be the correct price for these cars and also should i consider some other cars?

Thanking you!

Here's what GTO had to say on the matter:

As much as I love pre-owned cars, for you, I think a brand new big hatchback like the Altroz 1.5L Diesel is best.

If absolutely keen on sedan, as a 8-lakh rupee family car with space for 5, the Ciaz & the Honda City are suitable options. Why did you sell your '14 City Diesel?

Maruti S-Cross - My brothers are insisting the back seat angle is not good

It's adjustable. They probably just sat when it was in the upright position. Push it down:

EcoSport

An excellent car, but doesn't meet your requirements. Space for 4, not 5.

Here's what BHPian aargee had to say on the matter:

Except #1, S-Cross meets all your requirements; also to ensure the car not being driven in DL as 5+ years of Diesel vehicle might be under surveillance.

FE inside city, if driven sedate will be no more than 18 Kmpl & on highways no more than 22 Kmpl. Also if you're driving anywhere in the country be assured to find a ASC that's trust worthy or MSIL will ensure a service to your satisfaction.

Like GTO said, the back seat is certainly adjustable; but do not expect the plush comfort like a Sedan because SCross is neither a pure Sedan nor SUV & is a mix of both. And it's truly a 5 seater!
