August 2019 Car Sales - The bloodbath continues

The sales figures for the month of August 2019 are in and things are certainly not looking good. Almost all manufacturers have registered a decline.

Maruti Suzuki sold 93,173 cars in August 2019 compared to 96,400 units in the previous month. Sales were down 36% compared to the same period last year.

Hyundai's sales dropped from 39,010 units in July 2019 to 38,000 units in the month of August. The carmaker registered a year-on-year decline of 17%. 

Mahindra sold 13,150 cars as opposed to 16,800 in the previous month. The carmaker registered a decline of 27.1% compared to August 2018.

Tata Motors registered the highest drop in sales at 60.3% compared to last year. In August 2019, the company sold 7,316 units, whereas July sales amounted to 10,485 units.

Honda's sales dropped from 10,250 units in July 2019 to 8,291 units in August. The company registered a decline of 51.3% (YOY). On the other hand, Toyota sold 278 cars more in August 2019 compared to the previous month. However, year-on-year sales were down by 24.3%.

Ford sales dropped by 31.4% compared to the previous year. The carmaker sold 5,517 units in August 2019. Renault sold 5,700 units in August 2019 - 2,040 more than the previous month. Nissan too registered a small increase in sales in August, but its year-on-year sales were down by 54.5%.

Volkswagen, Fiat and Skoda registered a YOY decline of 30.8%, 56.6% and 12.5% respectively.
