BMW 5-Series Petrol launched at Rs. 54 lakh

BMW India has re-launched the 5-Series Petrol variant in India, at a price of Rs. 54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Launched in the 520i trim, the new 5-Series petrol variant will be imported in India as a CBU unit. The petrol 5-Series is available for sale across all dealerships of BMW India.

The BMW 520i is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo, four-cylinder engine that churns out 181 BHP and a peak torque of 270 Nm between 1,250 to 4,500 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-Speed Steptronic gearbox. The company claims that the new 5-Series can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 233 kmph.

The car gets a lightweight construction, Auto Start/Stop, ECO PRO mode, 50:50 weight distribution, and Brake-Energy regeneration. Other features on offer include a Multi-Information Display (MID), BMW iDrive control system, BMW navigational system, Harman Kardon surround sound, Bluetooth connectivity, rear view camera, park distance control, and many other BMW Apps.

The 520i comes equipped with safety features like ABS with brake assist, Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), electric parking brake with auto hold and runflat tyres with reinforced side walls.

BMW had dropped all petrol variants of the 3-Series and 5-Series in India last year. This came out to be a drastic decision, as the Indian car market suddenly showcased a tilt towards petrol-powered cars. This was mainly due to the diesel car ban applicable in Delhi-NCR that stopped the sale of any diesel car with an engine displacement of more than 2,000 cc. The ban ensured that BMW was unable to sell its cars in the National Capital Region, which is one of the biggest luxury car markets of the country.

With the launch of the BMW 5-Series petrol, the German automaker hopes to regain its lost ground in the Indian market.
