BMW 8-Series Coupe concept teased

BMW has teased the 8-Series Coupe concept, ahead of its official unveiling that has been scheduled for May 26 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. It will be showcased as a design study concept, while production version is expected to be introduced in the market sometime next year. This information was revealed by the Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW - Herald Kruger.

The released teaser image showcases the concept car's silhouette. The Chairman has already announced that the 8-Series will be a luxury sports coupe, which will place it in direct competition with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.

The 8-Series is expected to be built on the company's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform and will thus use materials like aluminium and magnesium, with some carbon fibre elements in order to reduce the overall weight. Not much is known at the moment about the production-spec model, though it is expected to be powered by evolved versions of the engines that are currently found in the 7-series.

Eventually, BMW will likely be introducing a convertible version as well. However, the automaker hasn't yet decided on the possibility of a high-performance M8 version of the upcoming flagship.
