BMW G 310 bikes suffer from faulty alternator

BHPian RSimonS has shared information about the reliability issues that his bike suffers from. His G 310 GS is just over 2 months old and has covered around 400 km. The service centre advised him to postpone the first service as his bike had not travelled the expected distance.

On December 1, 2018, while he was out on a ride, the battery sign came up and shortly after, the bike stalled. The service centre said that the battery had completely drained and the owner was blamed for not carrying out the first service. The owner then paid extra and asked for a full service and check-up.

After the first service, the owner took delivery of the bike on December 6, 2018. However, on December 7, 2018, the ABS light came on, followed by the battery light and the vehicle stalled. This time, the service centre diagnosed the issue as a problem with the alternator and claimed that the alternator needed replacement. This is expected to take 2-3 weeks. This issue with the alternator was not identified during the first service.

The owner claims that his is the fourth or fifth bike in Bangalore to suffer from the problem. He has also reported that two more bikes had the same issue after his experience.
