Bridgestone plans to enter two-wheeler segment in India

With the Indian two-wheeler market showing positive signs of growth, Bridgestone is looking to get a share of the action. Earlier this month, Bridgestone launched a new range of fuel efficiency focused tyres for mid-size passenger cars and SUVs. It was at the launch event that Bridgestone India manager Kazuhiko Mimura expressed the company's interest in aggressively taking on the highly competitive segment, which is largely dominated by Indian players like MRF.

With international brands like Pirelli focusing on their range for entry level performance and premium motorcycles, it remains to be seen if Bridgestone will target mass market products or prioritize the premium end of the spectrum. Bridgestone already offers a range of scooter, off-road, sports bike and touring motorcycle tyres (among others) in international markets, for brands including Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Ducati and BMW.

No further details have been shared as the foray into the two-wheeler segment is still in its initial planning stages. Global players like Michelin have already entered the two-wheeler segment, with the French tyre producer also manufacturing tyres through an agreement with TVS Srichakra.
