Changed tyres & replaced suspension lower arms on my Hyundai Creta

When I got the tyres replaced sometime in November, the technician suggested to get lower arms replaced asap as it can cause further damage.

BHPian naveen.raju recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Update - Tyre Change:

It was time to get the 3rd set of tyres for the car. This time I was looking for wider tyres - 225/60/R17. The options that I had:

  • Continental
  • Michelin
  • Bridgestone Turanza T0001
  • Yokohama Earth 1

Since Bridgestone served me well twice (first set - 45k kms and second set - 45k kms), I decided to go with this. Changed all four and the valves since it is recommended to be replaced during the tyre change.

First Impressions:

  • Seating feels a bit high
  • Less road noise - This was immediately noticed. No idea if this was because the lower arms were replaced (more on this later), but I can definitely feel the lack of noise be it on asphalt, tiles or concrete roads. A drastic difference from the stock tires (Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport).
  • Comfort levels similar to Bridgestone Dueller (Creta stock tyre).

The change in tyre width isn’t evident. Only someone with a keen eye will notice the difference. Whereas Michelin looks wide for a 225 section tyre.

Update - Lower arm replacement:

Since my daily commute is through bad roads, the ride is very harsh and there's this squeaking sound coming from the front whenever I ride through a bad patch. Also this was pending for few months now and I had plans of changing it during my last periodic service that was done 5-6 months. But since it would take a day or 2, I decided to get this replaced later.

When I got the tyres replaced sometime in November, the technician suggested to get this replaced asap as it can cause further damage. I called the service centre asking whether the bush alone can be replaced and he said it could be done but had to take it to the lathe to fix this and cost was around 3k for one set. Called another service centre where I got my last service done and he said the entire lower arm will have to be replaced. Quoted around 7k for the pair and I decided to get the entire set replaced since I didn’t want to damage the new set of tires. They confirmed that both need to be replaced and I got it changed.

The old bush which was broken. Glad that I replaced both.

After replacing this, got the alignment done to ensure everything is perfect.

Observations:

I noticed the difference immediately. The ride quality was vastly improved with zero noise now. Takes the rough patches with ease. Even the technician who did the wheel alignment was impressed with the difference.

After fitment:

Odo stands at around 91,XXX kmsIn the coming weeks, am getting the following done:

Right side mirror indicator replacement - Mostly a DIY

Low AC cooling at times - Planning to take it to a FNG specialising in AC repairs.
