Did an 850 km roadtrip with my Windsor EV: Overall range & experience

No range anxiety as ample of charging points, Hisar to Bathinda was 175 km with no chargers on route but as backup options I knew we could detour a bit to charge if needed.

BHPian shubhank008 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

So completed my 2500 km in 28 days, majority of it driven in Delhi-NCR with night drives and what not, overall very pleasant experience and a perfect bang for buck.

Only some shortcomings I see are in the Screen Software and its options itself, for which I am sending feedback to MG hoping they address them through software updates.

Now recently did our first roadtrip Delhi-Bathinda-Delhi, total 850KMs driven overall.

Fantastic experience, with most of the backseat passengers (and frontseat too) sleeping in comfort during the trip, as we all were pretty tired due to couple weddings in a row.

I for one am not able to sleep in moving vehicles (cars, trains, flights) yet even I was able to get some sound sleep at the backseats.

It's no exaggeration, but the backrow is the real comfort row in Windsor.

Regarding charging, we stopped at Rohtak and Hisar for breaks (100KMs~ apart) and charge up, both points had 60KW chargers. Same sports when returning too.

Regarding range, I guess I still have a bad habit from driving my Octavia that I push the Windsor's motor quite a bit for instant torque, so much so that these were our numbers:

  • Delhi to Rohtak - 200KM range (2KM/%), avg speed was 100-110kmph on expressway
  • Rohtak to Hisar - 230KM range (2.3KM/%), avg speed was 80-90kmph, nice highway but still some vehicles and points of breaking/regen
  • Hisar to Bathinda - 280KM range (2.8KM/%), avg speed 65kmph, mostly state highway but still quite empty. Interesting thing is my friend was driving this stretch and he drove quite calmly (coming from a cng/petrol car)

Similarly, during our return, my friend drove Sirsa to Rohtak roughly 200KM~ and was again able to attain 2.8KM/% range even when driving 70kmph avg this time, I think your driving style affects the range a lot.

Bathinda had 2 chargers, so no problem.

My trip plan was done using MG eHub due to Free Charging, but I had also looked at PlugShare for more/wider charger availability for backup if needed.

Nonetheless to say, full 850 km trip was done on Free Charging.
