Doing an RTO transfer within the state

I am from Bangalore and I have liked a car which is of KA-19 (Mysore). I wanted to know that if I go ahead with the purchase, would there be anything else that needs to be done apart from the RC transfer?

Hello,

I am from Bangalore and I have liked a car which is of KA-19 (Mysore). I wanted to know that if I go ahead with the purchase, would there be anything else that needs to be done apart from the RC transfer? As I understand, RC transfer will have my name on the RC card but the number plate will still be KA-19. Do I need to worry about changing that to a local RTO in Bangalore?

Here's what BHPian DicKy had to say on the matter:

Nope. The name and address will reflect the change, but the vehicle will have the same old number. Only inter state RTO transfer necessitates a new vehicle registration number. So no need to worry.

Especially since Bengaluru and Mysuru are nearby. Maybe a registration plate from the other extreme end of the same state will lead to cops flagging you down at checkpoints.

Here's what BHPian condor had to say on the matter:

You will require a Clearance Certificate (CC) from the current RTO, and that will have to be submitted with the Form 29/30 to your local RTO.

Registration number will remain same.

Btw, KA-19 is mangalore RTO. So the car is already with a different RTO than it was originally registered with.

Here's what BHPian krishnakumar had to say on the matter:

I transferred my vehicle from KL22 to a Bangalore RTO but they didn't change the number. I have the same registration number but my vehicle details are officially registered here. I have the smart card and everything.

I got into this unfortunate trap actually. I assumed the number would change but you need to submit a separate form with fees for that. At least that's what I understood from them.

Here's what BHPian sahil624 had to say on the matter:

I changed my vehicle’s RTO from Kota to Jaipur, during the name transfer, after I got my vehicle from Kota. I too enquired about the registration number change. But, apparently, there is no provision of registration number change in case of within the state RTO change.

Here's what BHPian 4x4addict had to say on the matter:

Within a state it is only an address change but your vehicle registration and your driving license number will remain the same.

Here's what BHPian cool_dube had to say on the matter:

KA-19 is Mangalore and Mysore is KA-09 - Just to clarify.

For ownership transfer within same state, you do not need to apply for a new registration number. Just get a clearance certificate from the seller in your favor, along with forms 29 and 30, and you should be all set.
