Driver dies as Chevrolet Sail diesel goes up in flames

A 2-month old Chevrolet Sail diesel caught fire in Faridabad, Haryana resulting in the death of a 42-year old man.

Hardev, who was driving the car, was on his way from Faridabad to Gurgaon when the Sail burst into flames on the Surajkund-Pali road in Faridabad. A short-circuit is believed to have caused the fire. The central locking system of the car jammed, leaving Hardev trapped inside. The fire brigade could not control the fire in time and the unlucky man was burnt alive.

The police did not find a CNG kit installed in the car and are of the opinion that it was run on diesel.

Car fires are not very common. However, just in case one breaks out, a hammer or a fire extinguisher could come in handy.
