Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton wins the 2017 Italian GP

Lewis Hamilton recorded his second consecutive victory of the 2017 Formula 1 season with a win at the Italian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver has now moved into the lead of the championship for the first time in the season. His team mate - Valtteri Bottas finished in second place, while Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was placed third. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished the race in fourth place after starting from sixteenth on the grid.

Hamilton grabbed his sixty-ninth pole position after rain delayed the qualifying on Saturday. Williams driver - Lance Stroll started on the front row for the first time in his career. He was awarded the second position on the starting grid after Red Bull drivers - Max Verstappen and Ricciardo were handed grid penalties for changing their engines. Esteban Ocon in the Force India and Bottas started from the second row, with the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Vettel on the third row.

Hamilton led the race from lap 1. On the other hand, Bottas had a poor start and Raikkonen passed him. However, the Mercedes driver regained fourth place and went on to pass Ocon and Stroll. Both Mercedes drivers put in quick laps and built a comfortable lead over the rest of the pack. Neither of the Ferraris could match the pace of the Mercedes cars. In the end, Vettel finished 36.3 seconds behind the race leader. Ricciardo recorded some quick laps during his last stint on the super soft tyres and was catching Vettel, but finished almost 4 seconds behind the Ferrari.

Raikkonen finished fifth ahead of Ocon. Lance Stroll finished in seventh place, ahead of his team mate - Felipe Massa. After qualifying in eleventh, Force India's Sergio Perez finished in ninth place ahead of Verstappen, whose race strategy was ruined after a crash with Filipe Massa's Williams resulted in a puncture and forced him to pit.

McLaren's poor run continued with both - Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne retiring from the race.

The fourteenth round of the 2017 Formula 1 season will be held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore on September 17, 2017.
