Govt. approves Rs 10,000 crore FAME II scheme

The government of India has approved the Rs. 10,000 crore Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) scheme. The second phase of the FAME scheme will come into effect from April 1, 2019 for a period of 3 years. 

FAME-II builds on to the first phase of the scheme which was launched on April 1, 2015. It will support 10 lakh 2-wheelers, 5 lakh 3-wheelers, 55,000 4-wheelers and 7,000 buses. 

As part of FAME-II, the government is offering incentives on vehicles fitted with lithium-ion batteries. The government also plans to set up 2,700 charging stations for electric vehicles in major cities, metropolitan areas and hilly states across India. The intention is to have at least one charging station in a 3 sq. km area and have charging stations on both sides of highways at 25 km intervals.
