Honda brings PCX scooter to India for testing

After displaying the PCX 150 cc scooted at the 2014 Auto Expo, Japanese two-wheeler major Honda has brought it to India for research and development purposes. This has led to speculation the bike could be launched in India soon.

The PCX 150 is bulky in appearance compared to other scooters in the Indian market. It has a telescopic front suspension, wide headlamp on the front panel, a wind deflector above it, a long contoured seat and a floor carved out for the rider's footrest. The scooter rides on alloy wheels and has an analogue instrument cluster with a small digital display.

The PCX 150 is powered by a 153 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine. This unit produces 13.4 bhp and 14 Nm of torque and is mated to a V-Matic automatic gearbox. Stopping power is provided by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

Hero MotoCorp, Honda's former Indian collaborator is readying its own 150 cc scooter, the Zir, for a launch. Honda will not want to lag behind and will want to offer a scooter in the 150 cc segment before Hero manages to get a foothold.
