Limited-edition Ferrari J50 unveiled in Tokyo

Ferrari has unveiled a limited-edition supercar in Tokyo, in order to mark the company's 50th year in Japan. Called the Ferrari J50, this limited-edition car is based on the 488 GTB Spyder. The car will be limited to just 10 units, with each unit being custom crafted according to the owner's requirements.

The J50 is a product of the joint efforts of the Ferrari Styling Centre team in Maranello and Ferrari's Special Projects department. The J50 revives the targa roof style that was seen on Ferrari's of the 1970s and 1980s. Exterior design cues include the 'helmet visor' like effect from the windshield and windows, which is inspired from Ferrari’s open competition barchettas of the 1950s. It also gets a prominent black line that runs along the front bumper and merges on to the doors, before ending near the air intake afts. This dividing black line is inspired from the 288 GTO, F40 and F50. Other design elements include slim LED headlights, carbon fibre air channels on the hood and a transparent engine cover at the back.

Unlike the 488 GTB Spyder, the roof of the Ferrari J50 is not an electronically operated unit. Instead, it is a lightweight carbon fibre roof that can be manually removed and placed behind the seats, similar to the arrangement found on the 355 GTS.

Powering the Ferrari J50 is the same 3.9-litre twin turbo engine that is found in the 488 Spyder. However, for the J50, power has been boosted to 490 BHP while torque is rated at 760 Nm. Ferrari claims that the J50 can do a 0-100 km/h run in 3 seconds, before hitting its top speed of 325 km/h.
