Mahindra compact SUV to rival Hyundai Exter, spied!

Rumours suggest that Mahindra's Tata Punch rival could be called the XUV100.

Mahindra is looking to grab a piece of the compact SUV pie with a new model that will rival the likes of the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. An early prototype of the upcoming sub-4 meter SUV has now been spotted for the first time.

The heavily camouflaged test mule has an upright front fascia with flared wheel arches and a blacked-out A-pillar. It appears to have a stubby rear section with a raked rear windshield and a roof spoiler. The test vehicle is currently equipped with dummy headlights and taillights.

Rumours suggest that Mahindra's Tata Punch rival could be called the XUV100. Although, that's pure speculation based on a trademark filing. It is expected to fill in the gap left by the KUV100, which was discontinued earlier this year.

Technical details of the new model are scarce, but we can expect the compact SUV to use a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
