Mahindra Scorpio Automatic details revealed

When Mahindra launched the second-generation Scorpio last year, it did so only in with a manual gearbox. The company then started testing an automatic transmission version of the Scorpio, but there was no indication of when it would be introduced in the market. According to media reports, the company has sent mechanical details of the Scorpio AT for registration.

The automatic transmission is likely to be available on the S6+, S8 and S10 trim levels. The S10 variant with four-wheel drive will also get the transmission. This gearbox is believed to be the same a 6-speed, hydraulic unit as the one that was seen on the old Scorpio.

The Scorpio AT will be powered by the same 2,179cc, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine as the manual transmission version. This engine produces 120 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque @ 1,800-2,800 rpm.

"Automatic" badges on the tailgate and the sides of the vehicle are expected to help differentiate the Scorpio AT from the manual transmission version. Mahindra will position the vehicle against the automatic transmission versions upcoming Hyundai Creta and the Maruti S-Cross.
