Maruti Y9T LCV caught testing without camouflage

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest passenger car manufacturer is gearing up to enter the commercial vehicle scene. The company has been readying a light commercial vehicle (codenamed Y9T), which is expected to be aimed at the segment dominated by the Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo Plus. Last month we had brought you pictures of the LCV's unpainted body shells, which were claimed to have been taken inside Maruti's factory premises. Now the truck has been spotted testing on the roads without any camouflage.

The Y9T appears to be based on the Suzuki Carry, which is sold in various markets around the world under different names. To keep costs down, certain parts for the truck are expected to be carried over from other budget offerings from Maruti.

The Y9T is rumoured to be powered by an 800 cc, twin-cylinder diesel engine. This engine is also likely to be used in the Celerio hatchback and the Eeco. It is said to be able to produce 35 PS and expected to return about 30 kpl when mounted in the Celerio.

While the Y9T and Celerio diesel are likely to be introduced in the market this fiscal, the Eeco diesel is not expected to be launched before 2016.
