Mercedes-Benz E 220d launched at Rs. 57.14 lakh

Mercedes-Benz has launched a new entry-level diesel variant in the E-Class line-up in India. Called the E 220d, this new variant is priced at Rs. 57.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). Moreover, Mercedes will be passing on GST benefits to the customers post the July 1 implementation, which is expected to further reduce the price. Similar to other variants on offer, the new E 220d is also available in the E-Class' long wheelbase (LWB) guise.

The Mercedes Benz E 220d is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out around 192 BHP and 400 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain can accelerate the E-Class from 0-100 km/h in a company claimed time of 7.8 seconds, while the top speed has been rated at 240 km/h. Mercedes claims that this new engine is 17% lighter and 13% more fuel efficient than the 2.1-litre diesel engine found on the previous-gen E-Class.

Features on offer with the new E 220d include full LED headlamp and taillights, panoramic sunroof, 17-inch 5-spoke alloys, 3-zone climate control, reclining rear seats and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The E-Class was launched in India earlier this year with two variants - E 200 and E 350d. The petrol is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit that is rated at 182 BHP and 300 Nm. Meanwhile, the diesel 350d variant gets a 3.0-litre V6 engine that churns out 254 BHP and 620 Nm of torque. Both these engines are available with Mercedes' 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
