German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz has started testing the GLA crossover in India. Pictures put up by Zigwheels show the car clad in camouflage and with a Correvit sensor attached to its rear door.
The car seen here is a GLA200 CGI variant with a 1595 cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that develops 154 PS @ 5300 rpm and 250 Nm of torque @ 1250-4000 rpm. The GLA will also be available in GLA200 CDI guise with a 2143cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel motor that puts out 134 bhp @ 3400-4000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 1400-3000 rpm. Both the engines comply with Euro-6 emission norms and are likely to be mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz claims 0-100 times of 8.9 and 10.0 seconds for the petrol and diesel respectively. Both versions come with front-wheel drive and can attain a top speed of 205 kph. Other variants that could be offered inlcude the all-wheel drive GLA220 CDI with 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque and the GLA45 AMG.
The GLA shares its underpinnings with the A-Class hatchback which it resembles. However, it is longer and taller than the A-Class, and has a higher seating position and ground clearance.
The Mercedes GLA is expected to be launched in the next few months. It will compete with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
