Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class to be launched on October 14

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the GLE SUV in India on October 14, 2015.

The GLE has been known as the M-Class since its introduction in 1997. Under the new model nomenclature that Mercedes-Benz has adopted, all its SUVs start with the letters GL. Only the iconic G-Class will continue without any change.

With the change in nomenclature the GLE also gets a facelift. The exteriors of the car feature restyled headlamps, a new grille, tweaked tail lamps and reworked tail pipes. On the inside, the car gets a revised multifunction steering wheel and larger display for the infotainment system among other changes.

In international markets, the GLE comes with a range of petrol and diesel engines. In India, the vehicle is likely to come in two diesel variants - GLE 250d and GLE 350d. While the GLE 250d comes with a 2.1-litre, 4-cylinder engine that develops 203 BHP and 500 Nm of torque, the GLE 350d is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 255 BHP and 620 Nm of torque. Both engines will be mate to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

This will be the first Mercedes-Benz car to be launched in India since Roland Folger has taken over from Eberhard Kern as the Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
