Mercedes-Benz GLS (GL) facelift spotted testing

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has started testing a refreshed version of the GL SUV. The car was spied undergoing winter testing.

The GL will be renamed as the GLS in accordance with the new nomenclature that was announced by the company last month. Test mule features camouflage on bonnet and front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and tail lamps, indicating that these parts of the car are likely to receive changes.

No images of the interiors are available, but reports suggest that the GLS is likely to get some minor revisions on the inside. The car is likely to carry forward the engine options from the current GL range. In India it is available as a GL 350 CDI with a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel (255 bhp @ 3600 rpm and 619 Nm @ 1600-2400 rpm) mated to a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox. A GL 63 AMG is also available sporting a 5.5-litre, V8 petrol engine with 550 bhp and 760 Nm on the tap.

Mercedes-Benz is likely to unveil the GLS sometime in 2015. The car's launch in India is expected to follow.
