MotoGP rider Dani Pedrosa announces retirement

Dani Pedrosa has revealed that he will retire from MotoGP at the end of the 2018 season. The announcement came at a press conference held before the German Grand Prix, which is scheduled to be held from July 14-15, 2018.

The Spaniard began racing in the 125cc class in 2001 with Honda. In 2003, he won the 125cc world championship by winning 5 races and getting 6 podium finishes. In 2004, Pedrosa moved to the 250cc category. He won the championship on debut with 7 victories and 13 podium appearances. In the 2005 season, he scored 8 wins and 14 podium places and won the title once again.

Pedrosa moved to the litre-class MotoGP with the Repsol Honda team in 2006. He has secured 31 race wins and 112 podium finishes in the class so far. While he has finished second in the championship in 2007, 2010 and 2012, he has never managed to win the title.

Pedrosa's career has been marred with injuries and his retirement comes at a time when Repsol Honda has signed Jorge Lorenzo as his replacement for 2019. The Spaniard has raced with only one team since his MotoGP debut.
