Olympian Motors introduces vintage-style EVs with no screens

The cars lack any sort of screens whatsoever, instead offering plenty of retro-style buttons and switches on the dashboard.

New York-based startup, Olympian Motors, has unveiled two electric cars with a very different approach. The Model O1 and Model 84 feature vintage-style designs combined with modern-day tech.

As per the company, both EVs are "modular", with a Lego-like architecture made up of just 6 main components (4 core hardware & 2 software modules). This, combined with an additional 24 pieces, which include elements like the steering wheel and seats, completes the design.

Coming to the EVs themselves, the Model O1 replicates the curvy sedans from a few decades ago, while the Model 84 is an open-top boxy SUV. Both models are offered in either a 2-door or 4-door configuration. The Model 01 and Model 8 are underpinned by a "skateboard chassis" made by U Power - a Chinese e-mobility company. The bodies of the two EVs are said to be made from military-grade carbon fibre and titanium. They also feature laminated glass and nine airbags inside, all of which ensure passenger protection.

The two cars are extremely minimalistic, both inside and out. Inside, the cars lack any sort of screens whatsoever, instead offering plenty of retro-style buttons and switches on the dashboard. They do come with a Head-up display though, and voice commands to control some of the car's functions, like the infotainment, HVAC, seat adjustment and lighting; among others. Both EVs also use recycled and sustainable materials for their interiors and upholstery.

The Olympian Model O1 is powered by a single electric motor producing 310 BHP and 414 Nm, sending power to the rear wheels. It uses an 82 kWh/400V battery pack, which offers a range between 325 km - 490 km. The electric sedan has a claimed top speed of over 257 km/h and can sprint from 0-98 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Coming to the electric SUV, the Model 84 gets a larger 89 kWh battery pack offering 325 km - 540 km of range. It is also powered by a single electric motor, producing a slightly higher power output of 340 BHP and 480 Nm. The Model 84 also has the same top speed of 257 km/h, but being heavier than its sedan sibling, it takes 8.1 seconds to sprint from 0-98 km/h.
