Parents need car in Kolkatta: Buy new or send them my 2010 Honda City?

The car is well maintained and still runs like a dream. Now I am planning to shift the Honda City from Bangalore to Kolkata to my parents.

BHPian mk600 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hello,

My second car, a 2010 petrol Honda City, has been mostly used for city rides in Bangalore.

The car is well maintained and still runs like a dream. I recently got it evaluated by Spinny, and it came out with flying colors with a forecast that it will still run good for 10 more years, and barely 1% of such cars exist in Bangalore today.. which I am happy about.

But what is complicating is that my car will hit 15 year mark in Dec 2024.

Now I am planning to shift the Honda City from Bangalore to Kolkata to my parents, who need a 4W urgently.

My options are:

  1. Sell the City off in Bangalore, and then buy another set in Kolkata. Trying to avoid that, as the car is well maintained, and I am not sure I will get such a well maintained car again.
  2. Renew the car in a RTO Bangalore in Dec 2024, then get a NOC and then get it registered in RTO Kolkata. Or,
  3. Get NOC from RTO Bangalore, move to RTO Kolkata, and then get it renewed in RTO Kolkata.

For options 2,3 I was also told that West Bengal does not allow pre-BS4 cars to be registered to the state, not sure of the authenticity.

Which options is the recommended? Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated, especially in light of what is allowed in RTOs of Kolkata.

Thanks,

Manas
