Polo-based T-Cross SUV spied undisguised

Volkswagen unveiled the T-Cross concept at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and released a sketch of the car last month. Now, the car has been spotted in production-ready guise, with very little camouflage.

The T-Cross is based on Volkswagen's MQB A0 platform, which it shares with the sixth-generation Polo. It is expected to be the entry-level SUV in the company's model line-up and positioned below the T-Roc, Tiguan and Toureg in Europe. It is expected to measure 4,107 mm in length.

The spy images show the T-Cross with a hexagonal grille, fog lamps mounted low on the bumper and set of indicators and DRLs above them. The car gets black cladding on its sides, flared wheel arches, wrap around tail lamps, dual faux exhaust vents, silver coloured front and rear skid plates, roof rails and a tailgate-mounted rear spoiler and dual-tone alloy wheels.

The interiors are expected to feature adjustable rear seats. The car is also expected to get safety features such as ambient traffic monitoring and lane assist as standard.

While the car is ready for plug-in hybrid powertrains based on 48V systems, the first-gen T-Cross will not be available with any electric options. Instead, it is expected to use the existing powertrains found in the Polo, including the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine.

The T-Cross is scheduled for a late 2018 debut in Europe with launches planned in China and South America later.
