It is a known fact that there is not much to choose from if you want to buy a manual Porsche 911 today. The only new 911 models that still offer a manual variant are the Carrera T and the performance-focused GT3. Every other model gets a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Porsche dropped the manual for the Carrera S, the Carrera 4S, and the Carrera GTS for 2025. But things could change based on customer demands.
Clenn Giebenhain, project manager for the 911 said, “We decided to make one model as a manual, and keep it like that, because we didn't expect that high demand in the market. So if the question is, will we get the manual in the Carrera S, I cannot answer it today, because it's not decided. But, of course, we read the articles and read the demands, and we're thinking about that."
"The markets worldwide are very, very different [with regard] to demands for a manual. Normally, you would expect higher demand in Europe, but in fact, there isn't. Where we have a very high demand for manuals is the US, which I like very, very much," Giebenhain explained. "Unfortunately, we didn't see [a positive] trend in the US for manuals in the last three to four years."
Discontinuing manuals from many models has helped Porsche save costs and eliminate complexity. But if demand goes up, the carmaker will think about offering more manuals.
Porsche says the 911 Carrera GTS with the turbo-hybrid powertrain was designed with the PDK in mind, so that model getting a stick shifter is ruled out. But the Carrera and the Carrera S could get the manual back in the future.
