Pune: Police order removal of tyre killers

Amanora Park Town located in Hadapsar, Pune had recently installed "tyre killers" to deter driving on wrong side of the road. The Pune police have now ordered the removal of the spike strips.

The tyre killers were installed to control the excessive vehicular commotion near Amanora Pearson School. According to a media report, the Hadapsar traffic unit issued a notification for removal of the spikes on March 31, 2018, as they were installed on a public road without taking prior permission from any government authority. The police officials believe that these tyre killers are to be placed on gates with restricted entries and not on roads which are regularly used by the public.

These so-called tyre killers consist of a metal strip placed across the road with sharp metal spikes pointing in the opposite direction of the traffic flow. The idea is that, the spike strip will puncture the tyres of the vehicles coming the wrong way. While, on the other side is a metal ramp which allows for traffic to pass over the spikes without causing any damage to the tyres.
