Rumour: 50% of Mahindra TUV300 orders are for AMT version

Earlier this year, Mahindra launched the TUV300 in India. The vehicle has been selling in good numbers. Our sales reports show, that In the two months that the vehicle has been in the market, the company has shipped close to 9,000 vehicles out of its plant. What is interesting here is that a large number of these bookings are for the AMT version.

Media reports claim that Mahindra has received 12,000 bookings for TUV300. Almost 50% of them are for the AMT version. The popularity of the transmission technology has been rising since its introduction in India in 2014.

AMT is believed to offer the convenience of an automatic transmission with the fuel efficiency of a manual transmission. The system does not need a clutch to be depressed, which reduces the effort required to drive the vehicle, thus making the car relatively stress-free to drive in traffic. At the same time, it is not as expensive as a conventional automatic gearbox.

The TUV300 Autoshift, as Mahindra calls the AMT version, comes in two variants - T6+, which is priced at Rs. 8.52 lakh and T8+, which is priced at Rs. 9.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune).

It is powered by a 1,493cc, 3-cylinder mHawk80 diesel engine with a 2-stage turbocharger. It produces 84 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 230 Nm of torque @ 1,500-2,250 rpm.

At present, Mahindra is rolling out 5,000 units of the TUV300 every month.
