Rumour: Hyundai to launch i20 petrol AT in May

Hyundai launched the i20 facelift at the Auto Expo 2018 at prices starting from Rs. 5.35 lakh. At the time of launch, only manual gearboxes were introduced with both petrol and diesel engine options. Recent reports suggest that the petrol automatic variant of the i20 facelift will be launched in May 2018. The automatic gearbox would be a CVT unit mated to the 1.2L petrol engine.

Currently, the i20 facelift is available with 2 engine options, a 1.2L petrol and a 1.4L diesel engine. The pre-facelift version of the i20 was also available with a 1.4 L petrol engine that was paired with a 4-speed torque converter unit. The 1.2L engine with the CVT unit will attract a lower tax of 12.5 % as opposed to the 24 % tax on the earlier 1.4L petrol engine, which will help Hyundai to price it competitively.

The 1.2L Kappa petrol, 4-cylinder engine makes 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and a torque of 115 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The other engine option on the i20 facelift is the 1.4L U2 CRDi diesel, 4-cylinder engine which makes 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 220 Nm @ 1,500 - 2,750 rpm. The diesel engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The i20 facelift has received some updates in terms of styling as well. This includes a new grille, re-worked tail lights and new alloy wheels among other updates.
