Rumour: Mahindra helps Ford develop the Aspire EV

A recent media report suggests that Mahindra has helped Ford develop an electric vehicle (EV) based on the Aspire compact sedan. The Aspire EV is likely to be slightly longer than the standard, sub-4 meter Aspire and is rumoured to go on sale sometime in 2019.

In September 2017, Mahindra and Ford had announced a strategic partnership for the development of future mobility and electrification among others areas. The Aspire EV, reportedly developed with help from Mahindra can be seen as a result of the collaboration between the two brands. It could potentially allow Ford to beat Maruti Suzuki and be the first brand to launch an "affordable EV" in the Indian market.

It has also been reported that the two carmakers are jointly developing a new SUV platform. The project is currently at an advanced stage of development and will spawn two new SUVs featuring distinctive designs of their respective brands.
