Rumour: Mitsubishi planning to launch Outlander PHEV in India

According to a media report, Mitsubishi is planning to launch the Outlander PHEV in India. The plug-in hybrid SUV will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) from Japan.

Unlike the 7-seater Outlander that is set to be launched in India, the plug-in hybrid variant comes in a 5-seat configuration. In terms of its proportions, it is identical to the former. Weighing in at 1,860 kg (kerb weight), the Outlander PHEV is heavier than the standard model.

The Outlander PHEV is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 117 BHP @ 4,500 rpm and 186 Nm of torque @ 4,500 rpm. In addition to the internal combustion engine, the Outlander PHEV comes with two electric motors - one on each axle, making it all-wheel drive and a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery. The motor on the front axle has an output of 80 BHP and 137 Nm, while the rear motor produces 80 BHP and 195 Nm of torque.

The petrol engine can either be used to recharge the battery or drive the front axle. The battery can also be charged through an external power source, in which case it takes around 5 hours to recharge to full capacity. A fast charger takes 25 minutes to recharge to 80% capacity.

Mitsubishi India hasn't made any comments regarding the launch of the Outlander PHEV yet.
